I am excited to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new owner of Ridgewood Needlepoint!

My love for needlepoint goes back to when I was a young girl.  I was taught the craft by my mom, who is an avid needlepointer and who owns her own shop in North Carolina.  I love to stitch, and enjoy working with different threads and stitches for each of my canvases.  Stitching every day is very therapeutic for me.  I look forward to starting new projects, and love the feeling of accomplishment that comes with finishing one.  Best of all is getting my projects back from one of our finishers!  One of the greatest things about working at Ridgewood Needlepoint has been getting to know the customers, designers and vendors.  I am looking forward to sharing my love of needlepoint, continuing my old friendships and building new ones.

Gretchen, Stephanie and I are busy working on enhancing our calendar to include “Zoom” Stitch and Chats, monthly Sunday stitching, and needlepoint classes.  As you know, we are open, but are operating on a limited capacity by appointment only.  We are however, looking forward to being able to reopen to full capacity as soon as we are able!

Staff Pick – Charlie Harper

We know there are a lot of Charlie Harper fans out there.  For today’s Staff Pick we have this adorable Koala bear with baby on sale for $80 originally priced at $107.  You can do a fancy stitch for the black stripes or keep them plain by doing Satin or Tent stitches.  Give us a call and this canvas can be yours.

Here are a few cuties.  We have a Kelly Clark Halloween basket that comes with the embellishments and stitching instructions.   A Christmas ornament, a great canvas for dog & cat lovers as well as a “Mother’s Love” canvas.   These canvases are all on sale for $20 each.

The Diagonal Hungarian Ground stitch is nice stitch that can work just about anywhere in your canvas.  I find in easy to compensate without too much stress. The beauty of this stitch is that you can jazz it up by adding a metallic thread for the Mosaic stitch, use 2 different colored threads or use coordinating colored threads like I did in the sample below.

My canvas was 18 count.  To begin this stitch, I used 4 strands of Splendor for the section shown in green on the diagram.  If your canvas is 13 count you would use 6 strands of Splendor.  Once that is done, I then added the Mosaic stitch, shown in yellow.  I find by doing each row at a time you avoid any missteps thus no ripping out!  Give it a try!
