New Stitch Monday – Decorative Borders over 6

New Stitch Monday – Decorative Borders over 6

Last week I shared a few decorative borders that were over 4 threads.  This week thought I would share a basic decorative border over 6 threads.  By changing the stitches used in the center you can change the look of the stitch.  In diagram “A” the center is a simple Smyrna Cross.  You can do this using the same thread that you stitched with or add a metallic thread to give it a little sparkle.  In diagram “B” the center Continental stitches can be done with a metallic thread and then brick bead a coordinating or different colored bead.  In diagram “C” a variation of the Double Straight Cross is placed in the center.  Here again by changing the thread you use in the center will give you a different look.  Play around with your threads and give them a try!

New Stitch Monday – Decorative Borders over 4

Every now and then you need some type of decorative border to divide or enhance a section of your canvas.  I have included 3 diagrams showing how you can change the basic border stitch by changing what you do in the center by using a combination of silk, ribbon, metallic threads & beads.  On the Funda Scully box I used Fancy Border B along the bottom.  I used a gold Neon Rays for the basic outline.  For the center Continental stitches I used several strands of a navy Bijoux and then brick beaded a white pearl bead in the center.  I have used all three patterns on different pieces and have always been very pleased with the results.  Give then a try!
