New Stitch Monday – Helen’s Lace

New Stitch Monday – Helen’s Lace

A few weeks ago, I saw someone’s post of a bird using Helen’s Lace as the feathers and it looked really good.  Then I remembered I did that stitch for a vase on one of my many unfinished canvases.  So, I dug it up from the closet only to discover that I still really liked this Maggie canvas and to my surprise the project was mostly finished.   Guess it will go into the “Let’s Finish This” group.  I do remember that I changed the vase it might have had dots on it.

I like to blend threads to get different effects.  Keeping in mind I haven’t work on this in years it looks like I used 2 strands of Bijoux and 2 strands of Valdani thread which is an over-dyed thread.   Splendor, Gloriana or any thread that you can ply will work.  Accentuate is another blending filament that can be used but I think you will have to play around to see how may strands you would need.   This canvas is 18-count so if you are going to try this stitch on a 13-count canvas you may have to play around with how many stands of each thread gives you the coverage you are looking for.  Give it try.

Happy Stitching,

Stephanie

New Stitch Monday – Cashmere Variation with Accent

This summer I was lucky to be able to go on vacation to the Jersey shore with my family.  I must admit that it was definitely different because of Covid-19.  What was not different was me planning on what to bring to stitch.  Usually I bring my stand, my light and two or more projects because you just never know what you will feel like working on while away.  This year I brought one simple project, no accessories or books other than what I usually keep in my stitching tote.   My plan was to keep the stitching simple.  I have a thing for hearts and fell in love with this canvas.  When I began the project, I realized that I wanted a stitch for the owl.    Good thing for me I save pictures of all the different stitches that I find on the web and I save them on my phone.  I found this Cashmere Variation with Accents and thought it would be perfect for the body of the owl.  I used Vineyard Silk for the Cashmere stitches and added a matching Kreinik for the accent stitches.   I am very pleased with the way it turned out and will use this stitch again.  Give it try!

Happy Stitching,

Stephanie

Virtual Tag Sale – Get Ready for Easter! Hen in Basket Kits

Get Ready for Easter!

Hen in Basket canvas designed by Brenda Stofft

We have four kits available from a previous class.  This cheerful design makes a wonderful spring stand up.  The colorful, sparkling eggs and the hen is full of texture.    The Stitch Guide is based on stitches from the book “Stitches to Go”.

We used a variety of threads including Merino Wool, Neon Rays, Impressions and Planet Earth Silk.   The threads are cut but include enough to complete the project.

These are first come, first serve and kits will not be offered again.  The discounted price for the canvas, threads and stitch guide is $70 which is a great price for just the canvas.  Please note the background thread and Petite Peluche are not included.

Enjoy this wonderful spring project!

Just let us know if you want us to include the missing threads and stretcher bars.
