Our Stitcher for the month of September is Sherry Levitt!Sherry Levitt is a crafty lady! She does knitting, crochet, beading and most importantly needlepoint J. Sherry has been needlepointing for at least 40 years, and it all started in a needlepoint store located in Pompano Beach, Florida. Her family moved to the Sunshine State and her husband’s business required him to travel frequently. Sherry not knowing a soul besides her in-laws decided she needed to find something to keep busy, quick! So she fell in love with Melissa Shirley, Alice Peterson and Avivia Designs. She also tends to migrate towards floral canvases. She just finds them to be so pretty. The thread that she prefers to work with is Vineyard Silk. Basket weave is her go-to-stitch and she works on multiple canvases at a time, usually 4-5. Please understand none of Sherry’s canvases are small. They are all medium to X-large and her stitching tension is amazing. She works her canvases effortlessly while engaging in conversations at stitch and chats weekly. We asked Sherry about gadgets and here is her list of needlepoint necessities; pink thimble (yes, it is fuchsia), magnets, scissors, pliers, magnifier and her stitch ripper. When asked about how she stores her canvases and threads here is what she said. All canvases are rolled and clipped closed, then store in a box upright (like wrapping paper). Her threads are another story. She sorts by manufacturer, then grouped into colors, put on loose leaf rings, then placed in a labeled shoebox, then into a cabinet. Below are some of Sherry’s pieces. We hope you enjoy viewing these as much as we have. Her pieces will be on display at the store for the month of September.
