Finished Piece

Here is the piece finished as a wall hanging stitched by Stephanie.

Staff Pick Wednesday – Melissa Shirley

One of the best things is no matter the time Melissa Shirley canvases are always timeless.  This is one of those canvases, summer strawberries.  You can keep this simple or you can jazz this up.  The canvas is on sale today for $60 (originally priced at $74), threads not included.  This can be finished as an ornament or square it off and put it into a box or the center of a pillow.  Some of the stitches that can be used is the Lazy Daisy stitch for the white flowers, French Knots for the center or use some beads. For the center yellow section, you could do the Hesitation stitch instead of following the pattern.  The Double Stitch would be great for the pink stripes using a pink Neon Rays and the coordinating Neon Rays Plus.  If you are interested in this canvas send us an email as we are on vacation this week.

New Stitch Monday – Alternating Cross & Mosaic

New Stitch Monday – Alternating Cross & Mosaic

I found this stitch while I was working on the Needle Deeva Patriotic Heart & Flag Club.  What I find really amazing is how you find a stitch in one book and while you are looking through other books you find the same stitch but with a different name.   I guess whoever is writing their book they name it how they see the stitch.  I just called it Alternating Cross & Mosaic.  There are several different threads that you can use for this stitch depending on what you are looking for.  On the flag I used 4 strands of Splendor for both the cross stitches and the mosaic stitches.  To jazz it up you can do a solid thread for one of the stitches and then add a coordinating Neon Rays, Neon Rays Plus or any other metallic thread if you are looking for some sparkle.  I think this stitch can be used just about anywhere on you canvas.  Give it a try.

Staff Pick Wednesday

Summer is officially here and what better way to enjoy these hot days is to have a nice slice of ice cold watermelon.  While you are enjoying your snack why not stitch this fun watermelon canvas by Pippin.  Once you are finished stitching this have it placed on a tote for you to enjoy next summer or have it made into a pillow for display during the summer months.  The canvas was $153 and is now on sale for $123 (threads not included).  If you would like us to kit your new project we will give you 10% off of the threads.  Give the shop a call today so you can pick it up before we close for vacation.

Watermelon Canvas

New Stitch Monday – T-Stitch

I just started working on a Strictly Christmas stocking cuff for my son in law and I had great plans of sharing 2 new stitches with you.  I wanted one for the top that would give a snow like look and one for the bottom that would also have a snowy look.  Unfortunately, that did now work out.  I must have tried 4 – 5 different stitches.  To say the least I am totally frustrated. So today I will share one of my all-time favorites of “keeping it simple stitches”.

The T-stitch is a great stitch to use just about anywhere.  I usually use it as a background stitch when I want the main theme of the canvas to pop & the background to be in the background.  If your sky background is light sky blue a great thread to use is Waterlilies “Ice” # 044.  It is an overdyed thread.  For 18 count canvases use 4 strands and for 13 count use 6 strands.  Where ever you choose to use this stitch I am sure you will be please.  Just remember to follow the pattern of how this stitch should be done.  You will notice a slight difference if you change the direction on the front of your canvas.

Give it a try.
