Stitcher of the Month
Introducing
Bonnie Kellman
Here are notes that I received from Bonnie. As I was reading it I heard Bonnie’s voice reading it. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to just copy it and not tweak it at all. As you read this you will find yourself smiling, giggling and relating to her. Bonnie is very comfortable with needlepoint. She knows what she wants and how she wants it. She doesn’t hesitate to change one color or five colors on a canvas. She is always working on something new and pretty. I truly enjoy picking threads and discussing colors and stitches with her.
"My Mom taught me to stitch when I was 11 years old. My first two pieces were cars that my Mom gave me to stitch for my little brother. She actually framed them and hung them on the wall in his room.
I am a big fan of Charlie Harper. They are fun whimsical pieces and a lot of creativity can be used to stitch the pieces. I also have a lot of Sharon G on the walls in my house.
Currently my favorite thread is Pepper Pot, but I usually pick my threads on whatever color I like best. I just mastered Nobuko so I try to use that stitch whenever I can, but the diagonal mosaic is an oldie and favorite of mine because it compensates so easily.
I work on multiple pieces because some of my canvases are too large to leave the house. I have an ornament tree that I decorate all year round so I also have a lot of small canvases that I am always working on. Sometimes I want to be challenged when I stitch and sometimes I don’t want to think at all! If my husband reads this, I have approximately 20 pieces in my stash. If he doesn’t read this, I have approximately 45 pieces in my stash. All of my canvases, with the exception of my WIP, are stored in my kids old toy chest. My WIP are kept in individual project bags with a small scissor and all the threads for that particular piece.
I have a tremendous stash of threads. I keep all my threads in individual floss bags and keep like colors together on a large ring. Any thread that comes on a card goes in a loose-leaf binder that has all plastic protectors that are used to store baseball cards. These are also stored by color. I follow the colors of the rainbow so everything is fairly easy to find. Finally I have rectangle shaped boxes. One is for my beads and the other is for my threads that come on spools"
I hope you all enjoyed reading about Bonnie as much as I have. I have to say I learned a few things about her that I didn’t know. Below are pictures of Bonnie’s needlepoint. They will be displayed at the store for the month of February.
